Guy fawkes and Parihaka

Guy Fawkes and Parihaka
By Gloria

A few hundred years ago November in England a guy tried to blow up Parliament. Well Parihaka was once knights said that the maori people that they had to move somewhere else but the two leaders Te Whiti and Tohu tried to protest peacefully. The troops arrested the two leaders and many other men and they were jailed for 16 months in Dunedin.

People celebrate by putting fireworks off. A lot of little kids like sparklers and the ones you hold and it shoots in the sky. My favorite fireworks would be the ones you point to the sky and rainbow balls will fly out like a comet and explode. What do you think write it in the comment section

We should celebrate Guy Fawkes on the day when England‘s parliament was about to get blown up, I think the fireworks can help us to remember not to do bad things because you could get sent to jail a year or more. Sometimes if you protest peacefully you might be able to solve the problems.

Parihaka is a town established on the slopes of Taranaki by Te Whiti and Tohu. The leaders peacefully protest against land being stolen by government soldiers. There village was destroyed and the women and children were sent away.

I think New Zealand should celebrate Guy Fawkes and Parihaka because remember our mistakes by the past history. Peace not violent, stands up for weakness.

Time Capsule Story

Time capsule writing structure

I wonder what Christchurch will be like when the time capsule is opened and my writing is read?
I am writing this in October 2017. My name is Gloria and I am a 9 year old girl in the Year 2017 at Sockburn School.

I am the youngest child in my family.  I have one brother.   Actually I quite like my brother, even when he call me a baby .  As well as people in our household we have one pet cat (well actually it's my brother's cat)…  I help look after Spinks (the cat) by feeding it brushing it and all that.

You might be interested to know what sorts of things I enjoy doing.
I really enjoy reading Geronimo Stilton.  I have reading this for 2 years. My fav colour is aqua.
Some other things I enjoy doing in my spare time at home are practicing erhu (a chinese instrument), watching Doraemon (a chinese cartoon) and talking with mum.

After school I go to OSCAR.
The best thing about this is they give you afternoon tea, and at 5:00 if there is enough food they will give us a snack.

By the time you read this I guess school will have changed a lot. At the moment we are in the old Sockburn School classrooms. They are made of wood and have a wooden deck all along the front. We have 92 students in our area which is called Kahikatea. This is for Year 4, 5 and 6 students.  We only have 2 exercise books. One for maths and one for everything. Most of our work is done on Chromebooks which are a lot like laptops.  I think having my own chromebook is easier because I can do my work at home.  The thing I am best at at school is math because I have a friend in math called Lola and she is better that me so she has helped me a lot, specially on multiplication

I wonder what schools will look like in the future? Next year Sockburn School becomes Wigram Primary School and we will be moving to a brand new school with new buildings and new everything.
I hope at the new school we have awesome teachers (even though most teachers are amazing not trying to be offensive).

I guess that in the future, when the time capsule is opened schools will have like floating screens, flying scooters, whiteboards that are touchscreen and all that.

Maybe, instead of walking, scootering, biking driving to school in the  family car kids will get to school by hoverboards, auto bike
Some of the jobs people might do in the future will be creating these things.

Ending
Maybe I will be there when the time capsule is opened and kids of the future will be able to ask me all about being a kid in 2017.
