The International World Wide Gumboot Throw

The International World
Wide Gumboot Throw
By: Gloria.L.H

I was sweating. My family was cheering like it was
meeting their favourite celebrity live in person. It
was my turn to throw the gumboot I picked up the
sweaty smelling red and black soul gumboot, it
looked fairly big and I could definitely slip my foot
inside with ease not that I would! I swang the
gumboot. Once. twice. I flies into the air at amazing
speed. 10 metres. 20 metres. 30 metres. 40 metres.
42.9 metres! I was amazed, and my ears was ringing
from claps and cheers, this was the first time I’ve
heard a crowd go as mad and wild as this. At the end
of the day my brother Bobby was cooking dinner
and my parents were congratulating me. I was
proud. Very very proud.

T4 W6: The A&P Show

The A&P Show

I think you should go to The A&P Show because it is an amazing
place! The second you step in the place you are surrounded by a
powerful noise from amazing looking motorcycle doing eye popping
tricks. They will fly into the air. They will flip a few dozen times to
try amaze you.

They have every farm animal (even though they stink but their
cuteness kills the stink!) You name, they’ve got it. Like literally they
have at least twelve breeds of sheep. Don’t even get me started on the
little goats, they were standing on their hind legs with their front legs
on the gate being nosy but the adorableness will blow you away.

There is a air party thing next to the tip top family lawn because there
are slides and all types of bouncy castles. And there's a story teller
too. Oh yeah, and the circus with lots of entertaining things to do
there, so if your child gets bored, feel free to take them there and if
you can find it (which is kinda hard because itś located in the middle
and there is a lot of tall air things) there are lots of other places
scattered across the place.

You can also get free stuff like candy, frisbees and fans! Speaking of
candy and food you will get hungry after all the activities but don't
worry there will be food stands as far as the eye can see. So food,
check!

So the A&P Show is a great place for entertainment and a place to
learn more facts about animals even though it stinks and it's boiling
hot but it's still amazing there.

Poem

Always has an urge to flip
Smooth purple dolphin body
Snout is very long
Round eyes as dark as night

Breath like fish
Always at the speed of light when swimming or flipping

Slimy wet and cold touch
Always got fish in mouth

And likes to say “I love flipping even though it makes me dizzy hehehe!”

T1 W8: Embarrassing story

Embarrassing Story
Yellow: similes
Green: verbs
Blue: adjectives

I had a fantastic day then I suddenly remembered that it was one of
my dear friend, Alexia's birthday party! I was excited I finished my
university test at record speed. I skidded to the math teacher like my
legs were stuck to living cheetah legs and handed her the long test,
she looked at me surprised, marked it and passed it back to me. I sat
back down and I noticed that everyone was staring at me with their
beady little eyes. Alexia whispered to me “I didn’t know you could
write so fast!” “yea I didn’t expect that either” I replied with a smile.

After a long, exhausting day of school I got a call from Miriana to
meet her at the back of Jelly (Jellypark) “hey, Gloria meet me in
Jelly at 4:00 with your flash red skates.” exactly after she said that I
replied in a happy tone“ok, but I have to scoot my boot at 5:45 to my
friend´s b-day party.” I speed to my humongous house and slipped on
my rollerblades and rolled to Jelly.

I skated with Miriana till 5:45 and said my farewells, then as fast as
lightning I made it to Alexia's party in the middle of a park, but as
soon as I entered still with my rollerblades on I slipped like a fool and
slided to the wall and smacked my face against it. Alexia turned as
pale as a ball of mozzarella while I turned a bright cherry red, hurled
in a ball and rushed home. That was the last time I was going to go to
a party that year.

Where you should go for your next holiday T4 W6

Where you should go for your next holiday

Intro
Ni hao, so, you might be wondering where you can have another exciting, life remembering holiday, well I suggest you go to Beijing in China, why? Because there are lots of exciting places to go to and scrumptious food to taste. You will be amazed once you get there because you don’t even know what to do first. In the next few paragraphs you are going to read many spectacular reasons on why and other data you need to know. That is why you should go to the amazing Beijing.

Information for the flight
Now I am going to you about the flight, if you are taller than 1.20 metre than the price would be $436 at the airport in christchurch. You might be annoyed by the expensive prices so you might thinking ¨oh I think Iḿ going to stay where I am¨, well the price is expensive to go to Beijing because well, 1st , you need to take two flights, and 2nd this holiday could be so awesome that your grandson could tell your great great grandson, and yes that is how life remembering Beijing is. The flight is at least 13 hours long but you won’t be bored the plan has a little TV.

Water cube
I have not been to Beijing National Stadium, Temple of Heaven, Beijing Olympic park, Ancient North WaterTown, National Museum of China, Beihai park, Chairman Mao Zedong Memorial, or Zhongnanhai so I think you should go and have a look and see which place is better, Water Cube is a place shaped like a cube, and you can go swimming there in mind blowing slippery twisting slides. In the daytime the Water Cube is blank white, but at nighttime oh boy it’s colourful It’s like Hanmer Springs, the spa’s are as bubbly as a ton of bath bombs in a bathtub. Well that's all I can tell you. ( I’ll have pictures down below)

The Beijing Zoo
The Beijing Zoo is a Zoo and I guess you already knew that, but the stunning Beijing Zoo has about every animal you can think of. My favorite animal is a dolphin and well I saw a dolphin. I saw the dolphin in a aquarium, I kept on seeing sharks that were eating fish everywhere in that aquarium, and that zoo is gigantic. If you have a favourite animal I will be 98% sure that it is there.

Beijing Foods
Now I’m going to talk about food and if you're a food lover then I guess every time I’m going to say the word food you're going to start licking your lips. The Beijing restaurants are practically everywhere so you don’t have to worry about getting hungry. These tasty foods will keep you going for a while in fact as soon as you eat one you can’t resist for another, and yes that going to keep eating until well you about to explode but you won’t. My favourite food in Beijing is Peking Roast Duck, but I do not know what you would like out of these thousands of foods. Trust me you will feel like non stop eating these scrumptious dishes if you are crazy about food!

The END/Conclusion
So as you can see from the facts this place is loaded with fascinating places to go and delicious food to taste. So go pack you bag buy a ticket and board the plane to Beijing and have a epic time as you are having fun in the sun!

How my pigeon got stuck!

I might story T4 W1

I might story

I might have traveled on a jetski locked in a jail cell and I met a viking warrior leading a army

On a wonderful Sunday I jumped out of bed and almost landed on my cat, Spinks luckily he zoomed to mum before I could land on him, I smacked my head on the door and I think I might have been riding a jetski and somehow I landed in a gigantic jail cell filled with water. The water slowly went down because I finally noticed a drane as big as a baby dolphin. As soon as the water vanished down the drane. I might have saw a viking leading a huge army come into the cell through the walls. I might have ran into the corner of the cell three quarters dead from fright. The leader of the viking army said “we are not here to scare you we are here to make your head stop hurting and when that happens you will be back to your own world is that ok with you?”“yes but I wish I do not have to leave this awesome jetski behind but I’m going home” as I replied bravely. “ alright, take this jetski keychain to remember us, oh and by the way there's a button that turns it in a real jetski, goodbye now” he said. I felt very weird for a few seconds after that I felt water or sweat gushing on my face. But what actually happened was that I was washing my face, and brushing my teeth.

Guy fawkes and Parihaka

Guy Fawkes and Parihaka
By Gloria

A few hundred years ago November in England a guy tried to blow up Parliament. Well Parihaka was once knights said that the maori people that they had to move somewhere else but the two leaders Te Whiti and Tohu tried to protest peacefully. The troops arrested the two leaders and many other men and they were jailed for 16 months in Dunedin.

People celebrate by putting fireworks off. A lot of little kids like sparklers and the ones you hold and it shoots in the sky. My favorite fireworks would be the ones you point to the sky and rainbow balls will fly out like a comet and explode. What do you think write it in the comment section

We should celebrate Guy Fawkes on the day when England‘s parliament was about to get blown up, I think the fireworks can help us to remember not to do bad things because you could get sent to jail a year or more. Sometimes if you protest peacefully you might be able to solve the problems.

Parihaka is a town established on the slopes of Taranaki by Te Whiti and Tohu. The leaders peacefully protest against land being stolen by government soldiers. There village was destroyed and the women and children were sent away.

I think New Zealand should celebrate Guy Fawkes and Parihaka because remember our mistakes by the past history. Peace not violent, stands up for weakness.

Time Capsule Story

Time capsule writing structure

I wonder what Christchurch will be like when the time capsule is opened and my writing is read?
I am writing this in October 2017. My name is Gloria and I am a 9 year old girl in the Year 2017 at Sockburn School.

I am the youngest child in my family.  I have one brother.   Actually I quite like my brother, even when he call me a baby .  As well as people in our household we have one pet cat (well actually it's my brother's cat)…  I help look after Spinks (the cat) by feeding it brushing it and all that.

You might be interested to know what sorts of things I enjoy doing.
I really enjoy reading Geronimo Stilton.  I have reading this for 2 years. My fav colour is aqua.
Some other things I enjoy doing in my spare time at home are practicing erhu (a chinese instrument), watching Doraemon (a chinese cartoon) and talking with mum.

After school I go to OSCAR.
The best thing about this is they give you afternoon tea, and at 5:00 if there is enough food they will give us a snack.

By the time you read this I guess school will have changed a lot. At the moment we are in the old Sockburn School classrooms. They are made of wood and have a wooden deck all along the front. We have 92 students in our area which is called Kahikatea. This is for Year 4, 5 and 6 students.  We only have 2 exercise books. One for maths and one for everything. Most of our work is done on Chromebooks which are a lot like laptops.  I think having my own chromebook is easier because I can do my work at home.  The thing I am best at at school is math because I have a friend in math called Lola and she is better that me so she has helped me a lot, specially on multiplication

I wonder what schools will look like in the future? Next year Sockburn School becomes Wigram Primary School and we will be moving to a brand new school with new buildings and new everything.
I hope at the new school we have awesome teachers (even though most teachers are amazing not trying to be offensive).

I guess that in the future, when the time capsule is opened schools will have like floating screens, flying scooters, whiteboards that are touchscreen and all that.

Maybe, instead of walking, scootering, biking driving to school in the  family car kids will get to school by hoverboards, auto bike
Some of the jobs people might do in the future will be creating these things.

Ending
Maybe I will be there when the time capsule is opened and kids of the future will be able to ask me all about being a kid in 2017.

Art gallery reflection

Art gallery reflection

Introduction:
The whole class of kahikatea got split into three groups. We were learning about pollution and we had three activities the three activates were scultures, a mural, and a story board. The Study got to do a super awesome extra task which was making a little presentation sustainability and unsustainability.

Sculptures:
To build the Sculptures we used all kinds of material. I put a little island with plastic bags stuck and tangled in the trees to show pollution. The sea looked like a rubbish patch.

Mural:
Our mural had two sides, a unsustainable side, there was a gigantic tree in the middle and the other side was sustainable. On the sustainable side had bunch of leaves, but the unsustainable side only had one or two. I put a garden with maggie  on the sustainable side. There was also a little girl choosing what path to go.

Storyboards:
My story board had a kid and he never picked up his own rubbish. A super sustainable hero came and said “Wait! Pick up your rubbish because you are throwing it on the poor earth!” “O.K” said the kid

What Matai and Pohutukawa:
Matai made metal artwork, plastic flowers, colorful egg holders, and a sustainable board and a unsustainable board. Pohutukawa made CD fish, clay flower pots, and they also did paintings and drawings.

Conclusion:

I think next time we should make a statue of our selves or actually I think the next  subject could be about animals. So from the pollution based artwork I really hope will be more sustainable, i also hope that people liked it, because i do. If you did not go than there will be some pictures on my blog!

Pollution in wildlife

Pollution in wildlife
Help! Whales and dolphins are getting stuck in all kinds of rubbish.

Wildlife

Whales
They have enormous tails that can get caught in nets and have gigantic flippers. They also have small and a round fins.

Dolphins
Dolphins have small flippers and small fins and a tails. Dolphins are very intelligent because there body is similar to our body in fact there brain is more complex than humans.

Sea turtles eating plastic
Turtles are like pangolins but they do not have scales they have shells, turtle look slow but they can be pretty fast. Turtles mistake plastic food. If you put soap in the ocean turtles will think it's jellyfish and eat it, this will cause the turtle very close to death.

Effects of pollution
Pollution effects plant people and animals. Pollution is smoke, rubbish, log piles and sickness. Pollution is slowly killing the Earth, how? Well like I said before turtles and other animals are eating plastic which is killing them. Whales and dolphins getting trapped so they can eat or swim.

How can people help
As you can see the animals are dying because of the chaos of pollution. It is important that we dispose of rubbish properly by using the correct bins
